Have you heard of Tidysongs? If so, you already know that it's a music organizer software: it helps you clean up iTunes (yes, Tidysongs only works with iTunes).
What does it mean? It means that if your iTunes is a bit of mess, with duplicates everywhere, missing album covers, misspelled artists names and lots of "Track 01" and so on, you may appreciate that music organizers exist to help you fix all this!
Now, basically, before getting Tidysongs, you need to ask yourself 5 questions.
- How many duplicates do you have?
If you have many duplicates, like more than just a few of them, and it gets on your nerves from time to time, Tidysongs may be a good option to consider, as it will remove duplicates for you: once you have chosen what criteria to take into consideration (basically, do you take into account only artist and song, or artist, song and album), Tidysongs will work all by itself and put all the duplicates it has found into a separate folder on your desktop or somewhere else.
- How many album covers are you missing?
If you are missing a lot of album covers, and have tried to add some manually, you will greatly appreciate that there is a software that go get good quality album covers automatically. No more dragging and dropping, you’re all set!
- How many misspelled artists names, missing song titles and missing music info do you have?
This is one of my favorite Tidysongs features: it fixes all the "Track 10" you have by putting the proper song title, instead, it add the album name and gives you homogenous artists names spelling ("Anthony and the Johnsons" or "Anthony & The Johnsons"). This makes a huge difference in terms of how easy your iTunes is to navigate.
- Do you want music genres to be labeled properly?
If you think that "alternative" and "pop" are not enough to account for all the songs your have in your music library, and you would like to get proper music genres labels included the ones you just made up, you can rely on Tidysongs. You can relabel your songs genres and even create new genres.
- Would you like to get your favorite bands updates into your iTunes?
If that matters to you to get info about the bands you follow into your iTunes rather than your email box, forget about Tidysongs! You won’t get this feature with this software.
So it all depends on what you are looking for, and where you are starting from!
Note: I’m using Tidysongs on MAC OS X Snow Leopart 10.6, but you can also use it on Windows (xp, 7 or Vista).
